What You Should Include in Your Media Kit

You might be wondering, what is a media kit? When I first heard the term I was clueless. I have just written a post all about what a media kit is and included some of your questions from twitter! Check that out here!

So you know what a media kit is but should be in your kit? I'm going to walk you through what you need to have in your kit!

1. ABOUT

Tell them about you and your blog! You can do this all in one section or have a section for you and a section for your blog. Let them get to know what you and your blog are all about.

Include a photo of you and maybe your blog logo if you have one. And place your blog header or name at the very top of the page.

Don't forget to have your email in this section. Make it super easy to see so they can contact you.

2. SOCIAL

Include all of your social handles and follower stats. I round mine down to the nearest 5 or 10. But you could also round up. If you have an account will stats lower than the rest you can leave it out or keep it in. I personally keep mine in.

3. DETAILED BLOG STATS

Have a detailed section about your blog stats. Some things to include

- Average daily pageviews
- Average monthly pageviews
- Average daily unique pageviews
- Average monthly unique pageviews
- Average daily visitors
- Average monthly visitors
- Average daily unique visitors
- Average monthly unique visitors
- Domain Score
- Page Authority Score
- MOZRank

I also include average number of uploads per-week, average uploads per month, average views per post in the first week, and average views per post in the first month.

You can check your DA, PA and MOZRank here. The other stats can most likely be checked on the dashboard of your blog or by signing up for Google Analytics and finding your average after 3+ months.

4. DETAILED READER STATS

When most PR companies launch a campaign they have a target audience in mind so by giving more details about your typical readers helps them determine if you're right for their campaign. Some things to Include:

- Reader gender percentages (ex. ZGB's is 90% Female - 10% Male)
- Reader age range
- Top 3-5 Countries (The countries most of your readers are from.)
- Top Cities (I include the top 3 in each of my top countries.)
- What percentage of your readers are returning visitors
- Readers favorite topics (this will let them know if their campaign will do well on your blog.)

5. DETAILED SOCIAL STATS

This one isn't a must but it helps companies know if you'd be good to work with on a social media campaign. I include:

- Username
- Follower count
- Average number of daily tweets/posts
- Daily usage
- Average number of likes per tweet/post
- Average Retweets per tweet or comments per post
- Follow Gender
- Follower Age

Twitter is such a big help in this department since it tracks all of this info. To look at all the stats just click on "Impressions" on any one of your tweets.

I include these stats for Twitter, Instagram, BlogLovin' and Pinterest. I'm not very active on my FB pages so the stats there are almost at 0 so I just leave it out. I'll add them if that ever changes. I'm hoping to become more active there so maybe I can add them soon.

6. SERVICES

Let them know what you offer on you blog, such as Sponsored posts, giveaways, and product reviews. Give them a short description of what you offer with each service. I always wait until I've been contacted to see if they make an offer or ask for a quote. Putting prices in your media kit can end up causing you to low-ball yourself.

7. PHOTOGRAPHY EXAMPLES

Show them what to expect of they send you a product and you take photos for a review. This is completely optional of course. I just feel it adds a level of professionalism to the media kit. Make sure you mention you own all photos taken for PR content unless they purchase the photos for an extra fee!

8. SNIPPETS OF YOUR BLOG POSTS

I personally don't have any snippets of my blog posts in my media kit at the moment but I think it's a great idea! It shows the brands a bit of your work and what they can expect from you. You can do snippets of popular posts or product features or past brand work if you have any. I'll be adding this page to my media kit soon!

9. PR POLICIES

I highly recommend including your PR policies at the end of your media kit. That way they can never claim they didn't see them.

I also recommend creating a Work With Me page on your blog with your blog stats, social links, your full PR policies and a link to download your media kit. Then when you are contacted by PR  you can send them your kit and link to your PR page so they can read the policies in both places.

10. BRANDS YOU'VE WORKED WITH

You don't need to have worked with brands in order to make a media kit. I made my first media kit about a year in because a company asked for it. When they asked I had no idea what a media kit was.

But once you have worked with a couple brands it is great to add them in. I have only just started working with some so I haven't added any in my kit yet. That will be the next thing I add to it along with the post snippet page.

EXTRAS

I have a small FAQ section in my media kit. Just a few questions I thought might come up during a PR exchange. I've never seen this in any other media kit. I thought it was a cute little idea that would save me from answering the same basic questions over and over again.

So now you know what a media kit is and what to include but where do you start making one? Where can you get a template? I have a post that includes a free Simple Media Kit Template with instructions on how to edit it and my best media kit tips! Check it out here!
