Dealing with Anxiety | Guest Post

Do you know that feeling of expecting the worst out of a situation when it hasn’t even happened? Or that feeling of over analyzing a situation, then that situation finally happens and you realize you were freaking out for no reason? Yeah, that’s anxiety for ya!

I’ve lived with anxiety for yearssss now and while it's still an uphill battle I’ve learned a few things on how to cope with my anxiety so, maybe these tips can help you too!

(Now keep in mind, I’m not a healthcare professional these are just some ways that I keep my anxiety in check)

1. Be present

Now this is easier said than done, but instead of thinking “what if” try and stay present. Often times we create these negative scenarios in our heads, when in actuality we have nothing to worry about. Why put all that extra stress on your body?!

2. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

There was a point in my life where my anxiety got so bad that I chose to seek professional help. While this wouldn't necessarily be my first choice to dealing with my anxiety, sometimes you’re left with no other choice. Don’t be afraid to see a therapist, it can really be a huge help!

3.Exercise

When I first heard about exercising to help manage anxiety I laughed it off. Me exercise??? Yeah right! Going to the gym actually gives me anxiety more than anything. But then I realized, exercising doesn't only mean going to the gym, it could mean going for a hike or taking a Zumba class!

4. Meditation

Now I know the idea of meditating to cope with anxiety may sounds a bit hippie-ish, but it really can help if you’re doing it correctly. I don’t use it to “cure” my anxiety, but more so to refresh my brain whenever I’m feeling overly anxious. Don’t knock it till you try it!

5. Get Enough Sleep

This may seem like the simplest thing on this list but between going to school full-time, working a part-time job, running a blog site, and having a social life, getting enough sleep isn’t as easy as it seems. A lack of sleep can have a huge impact on your stress levels which can directly impact your anxiety. Make sure you’re getting your 8 hours!

Everyone’s anxiety is different and what works for me might not work for you, but I hope some of these tips help you out and make anxiety a little more manageable for you!

  1. Exercises is true! Or even going for a walk around your neighbourhood helps for me too I think having the realization that everyone is going through their own problems can really put things into perspective. Thanks for the blog post!

    1. Couldn't agree more! Sometimes you feel like you're the only one going through it but that's far from the truth! I have to remind myself of that all the time. Thanks for the comment!
